The State AI Safety Roundtable envisions a world where achieving excellence in AI safety is a legal and competitive necessity for AI developers and deployers.
Mission
The State AI Safety Roundtable works to strengthen the essential role of U.S. states in ensuring that artificial intelligence delivers widespread benefits and minimal risks to society. Informed by a community of policymakers, advocates, researchers, and other stakeholders, the Roundtable:
Champions the role of states in AI federalism and helps state leaders advance AI safety
Strengthens civil society's role and bipartisan collaboration in AI safety
Provides solutions for building a culture of AI safety in business practice
The State AI Safety Roundtable does not support, endorse, or campaign for any nominee or candidate for public office.
The State AI Safety Roundtable receives incubation support and fiscal sponsorship from GDI and financial support from the Future of Life Institute.
The Role of States in AI Governance
Since America's founding, states have played a central role in ensuring the safety and well-being of their people. We believe that states have a powerful role to play in advancing AI safety, possess a range of tools and powers that can be deployed, and are well-positioned to bring people, communities, and sectors together to ensure AI serves the common good.
At a time when people's trust in AI is weak and the politics of AI are fractured, our article in TechPolicy Press outlines the Roundtable's perspective and approach.
